Great cold proverb

(1) The south wind sends cold air, and the dogs don't go out in the first month.

This agricultural proverb means that if it is windy in the south on the day of the great cold solar term, in other words, it is warm on the day of the great cold solar term, then the first month is very cold, and even the dogs kept in the local countryside are reluctant to go out because of the cold weather. Old people in rural areas say that it is cold or not in the New Year, just look at whether it is warm or not on the day of the great cold solar terms. If the cold weather is warmer, it will be colder during the Spring Festival. In rural areas, there are many similar agricultural proverbs, such as "A cold pig is wet, the buds rot in March" and "A cold cow is wet, and it will be cold on March 3 next year". These agricultural proverbs all show that if the weather is warm and humid in the cold solar terms, there will be low temperature and rainy weather in February and March in the solar calendar, which is obviously unfavorable to spring ploughing.

(2) Cold weather is afraid of the south wind, when it rains the most.

According to the old farmer who can see the weather in the village, there was no weather forecast in the past, and the weather of 24 solar terms was often used to predict the later weather, and the weather on the day of the great cold solar terms was once an important indicator of agriculture. The experience of the older generation is that if the north wind blows on the day of severe cold solar terms and the weather is cold, it indicates a bumper harvest in the coming year. On the contrary, if it is southerly and the weather is warm, it will often affect the harvest in the coming year. Moreover, the rain on the day of the great cold solar term also indicates that the rain in the coming year is not normal, so the older generation is very afraid of the rain on the day of the great cold solar term.

(3) slight cold, severe cold, it will be warm next spring.

This agricultural proverb means that if the weather is cold during the solar terms of great cold and slight cold, it means that the weather will heat up earlier after the next spring. Although it cannot be clearly explained by modern science, it is also the strength of agricultural proverbs, which are all summed up by the experience of our ancestors and have high accuracy. Moreover, slight cold and severe cold are relatively cold, and the harvest in the coming year is often good. On the contrary, if the slight cold and severe cold are not cold, the harvest in the coming year will be affected. There is an agricultural proverb called "the cold is not cold, and the people are uneasy."

(4) It doesn't snow in slight cold and severe cold, and the fields crack in light summer and hot summer.

This is an agricultural proverb circulating in Hunan province, and it is also the experience summarized by ancient working people in many years of practice. It means that if there is no snow during the slight cold and severe cold solar terms, it means that there will be less precipitation during the next summer and summer solar terms, and there is a great possibility of drought. With global warming, there is little snowfall in the south now, so the accuracy of this agricultural proverb is not too high.

⑤ A slight cold is not as good as a bad cold, and it gets warmer after a bad cold.

The meaning is simple. It means that the weather is cold when there is no big cold solar term, but after the big cold solar term, the weather begins to pick up. As the last solar term in the twenty-four solar terms, beginning of spring comes after the Great Cold. According to the agricultural proverb "March 1949 on the ice, May 1969 along the river to see willows", the severe cold solar term is April 1999, and after that, it is May 1999. As the saying goes, "Spring comes to five Kyubi no Youko, and spring comes to six or nine heads". beginning of spring is usually on the last day of May 1999 or the first day of June 1999, so the weather has gradually warmed up. According to the meteorological data of previous years, generally in mid-February, warm weather increased, but sometimes there were some cold and low-temperature days, and it really began to pick up in mid-March.
