Eating zongzi on Dragon Boat Festival is the main custom in our hometown. As soon as we entered May, our family began to soak glutinous rice. I remember my mother has been doing this for many years.

On the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, my mother and sister began to make zongzi together and put them in a big basin for preparation. Don't underestimate the skill at hand, because I have made many mistakes and been scolded by my mother many times.

When making zongzi, you can also put some peanuts, red beans, red dates, chicken, etc. in glutinous rice to make jiaozi with different flavors. Mother likes to mix red dates with rice for good luck. It is said that children who eat more jujube dumplings will win the first prize in school in the future. I really eat a lot every year. Later, the champion didn't go to middle school, but he did go to school. I made it! I like rice with meat best. It tastes sweet but not greasy. Looking back now, I am particularly greedy!

On the morning of Dragon Boat Festival, adults have to prepare breakfast besides cleaning the house, and we children are the busiest. We get up at two or three in the morning. A group of friends first went to the distant Woods to look for mugwort leaves, then went to the wheat field to wash their faces with mugwort leaves and get dewdrops from the wheat leaves for good luck. On the way, I will break a peach branch with a peach and put it at the gate. The old man said it would avoid disaster. I have to get home before the sun comes out, hang mugwort leaves on the lintel, put them in the window, and soak mugwort leaves in the basin to wash my face. At noon, put the duck eggs and goose eggs cooked in the zongzi pot in the sun for a while before eating, so that you won't have a headache all summer. When I was a child, there were few chickens at home. My mother has been saving eggs for a long time so that the whole family can eat them during the holidays.
