At that time, the countryside paid special attention to the Dragon Boat Festival. At that time, I didn't know the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival. I only know that the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated at home every year like the Chinese New Year. Although there is a little legend in my childhood mind about commemorating Qu Yuan, I know nothing about the so-called legend of Wu Zixu's death anniversary and his filial daughter Cao E.

When I was a child, it was essential to wear sachets and tie colored threads during the Dragon Boat Festival. On the morning of the first day of the fifth lunar month, before the sun comes out, the first important thing for adults is to tie five-color lines on their wrists, ankles and necks. Children are not allowed to talk when tying the thread. The five-color line cannot be broken or discarded at will, and can only be thrown into the river during the first heavy rain in summer or the first bath. Eating zongzi on Dragon Boat Festival is the main custom in our hometown. As soon as we entered May, our family began to soak glutinous rice. Mother usually prepares a basket of rice for soaking, and at the same time, she will soak the dried reed leaves in water to make brown leaves. Maybe the soaked glutinous rice will be more sticky. I remember my mother has been doing this for many years.

On the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, my mother and sister began to make zongzi together and put them in a big basin for preparation. I occasionally make trouble, try to imitate them, bend the leaves of zongzi into a cone with my left hand, then put the rice in the funnel with my right hand, flatten the rice, feed the palm leaves back and cover them, hold them and tie them tightly with silk thread, and the triangular zongzi will be wrapped. Remember that the winding silk thread must not be loose, otherwise it will spread easily when cooking zongzi. Don't underestimate the skill at hand, because I have made many mistakes and been scolded by my mother many times.

When making zongzi, you can also put some peanuts, red beans, red dates, chicken, etc. in glutinous rice to make jiaozi with different flavors. Mother likes to mix red dates with rice for good luck. It is said that children who eat more jujube dumplings will win the first prize in school in the future. I really eat a lot every year. Later, the champion didn't go to middle school, but he did go to school. I made it! I like rice with meat best. It tastes sweet but not greasy. Looking back now, I am particularly greedy!

On the morning of Dragon Boat Festival, adults have to prepare breakfast besides cleaning the house, and we children are the busiest. We get up at two or three in the morning. A group of friends first went to the distant Woods to look for mugwort leaves, then went to the wheat field to wash their faces with mugwort leaves and get dewdrops from the wheat leaves for good luck. On the way, I will break a peach branch with a peach and put it at the gate. The old man said it would avoid disaster. I have to get home before the sun comes out, hang mugwort leaves on the lintel, put them in the window, and soak mugwort leaves in the basin to wash my face. It is said to have the magical effect of exorcising ghosts. We are happy to do it, and we don't feel a little tired. This is a grand festival.

Family members must cook eggs in the pot where zongzi is cooked. If possible, they should cook some duck eggs and goose eggs. After eating sweet zongzi dipped in sugar, they should eat eggs dipped in salt. It is said that if you eat boiled eggs in May, you will not get sores in summer. At noon, put the duck eggs and goose eggs cooked in the zongzi pot in the sun for a while before eating, so that you won't have a headache all summer. When I was a child, there were few chickens at home. My mother has been saving eggs for a long time so that the whole family can eat them during the holidays. At that time, she seldom used money to buy eggs. Like my sister, I always put my eggs in my pocket and don't want to eat them. I really can't bear to eat eggs with Zongxiang, so I have to wait for the children to fight with them and then slowly eliminate them.

The memory of Dragon Boat Festival filled my childhood. Although I was poor, it reminded me.

The Dragon Boat Festival in childhood is happy, and the feeling of happiness seems to be far away from me, perhaps because I haven't been so happy at home for many years!

Now, far from home, I still get up early every Dragon Boat Festival. Although I can't find the trace of mugwort, I can only touch the peach branches, walk in the street and feel the atmosphere of the Dragon Boat Festival with my heart.
