Why do lighthouse jellyfish live long?

Lighthouse jellyfish has a long life because it has regenerative genes.

If a lighthouse jellyfish is cut open, it can become two corals within 24 hours and grow tentacles after 72 hours. Even if it is broken, as long as its cells are intact, it can become a hydra and start life again. It can be understood that the life of lighthouse jellyfish has no end. In other words, lighthouse jellyfish returned to the starting point of life before their death, reinterpreting their own growth and development.

What do lighthouse jellyfish do for a living?

Most jellyfish are carnivores, feeding on plankton, small crustaceans, polychaetes and even small fish. Due to the mechanical and chemical stimulation of food, this hydra lengthens its tentacles, releases a stinging silk sac to entangle, paralyze and poison its prey, and then sends the food into its mouth.

Mucus secreted by gland cells in oral area is beneficial to food swallowing. After food enters the gastric cavity, gland cells in the gastric layer begin to secrete protease, which decomposes and digests food to form many peptides. At the same time, food can be mixed and promoted in the stomach cavity because of the flagella movement of vegetative muscle cells.

At the water temperature of 20℃, it takes 25 to 30 days to reach sexual maturity. They are mainly distributed in the Caribbean, but due to the ballast water discharged by ocean-going ships, they gradually spread to other adjacent waters and the offshore of Spain, Italy and Japan.
