polished glutinous rice
Zongzi leaves (or reed leaves and bamboo leaves)
Red dates, red bean paste, meat stuffing and other fillings.
Rope or brown thread
Steps:
Soak the glutinous rice in clear water for about 4-6 hours until the glutinous rice becomes soft.
Prepare zongzi leaves, clean them and blanch them with hot water for later use.
Take a leaf of Zongzi, fold it into a small cone, and hold the bottom with your fingers to form a funnel.
Put some soaked glutinous rice in the leaves of Zongzi, and then add some stuffing, such as red dates, bean paste or meat stuffing.
Add more glutinous rice, so that the filling is completely covered and the leaves are tightly wrapped.
Tie the zongzi tightly with rope or brown thread to ensure that it will not spread.
Put zongzi in a steamer and cook for 2-3 hours until the glutinous rice is completely cooked.
Take out the zongzi and let it cool before eating.
The above are the common methods of making zongzi by hand. You can choose different fillers according to your taste and preference. Wish you a happy Dragon Boat Festival!
