Why is the southern off-year different from the northern off-year?
Small years are divided into "North and South". What is the reason for a day apart?
Because before the Southern Song Dynasty, the political center was mostly in the north, influenced by the government, and the off-year was mostly the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month. On the contrary, the south is far from the political center, and the ordinary people's off-year is one day later, that is, the 24th of the twelfth lunar month. Therefore, among the Han people, there is a custom of "three officials and four people".
Also influenced by ancient political reasons, it is more grand to spend a small year in the north. In addition to eating honeydew melon, caramel, sesame candy and other sweets, there are also customs such as eating fire, eating jiaozi, and decals.
In the south, off-year holidays are unlikely to have such a form. The common custom is to eat rice cakes, glutinous rice balls and rice cakes, which means "reunion" and "sweetness".
