Traditional Culture Encyclopedia - The 24 Solar Terms - What is stinging?
What is stinging?
The so-called "sting" means "the insects are awakened". According to the idea of traditional farmers, after being stung, all kinds of small creatures, including earthworms, snails, grasshoppers, etc., will be "awakened" and start activities. Therefore, people will pay special attention to the growth of fields and predict the time of spring ploughing and the growth of crops on this day.
In addition, another feature of the panic is that the weather is getting warmer. As the sun moves northward, the sunshine time gradually increases, the water vapor in the air begins to increase, and the temperature and humidity begin to rise. In the south of China, it is often rainy after being hit, sometimes accompanied by lightning and strong wind, which is caused by the change of atmospheric circulation.
On the other hand, fright is also one of the important festivals in traditional culture. In ancient times, people held sacrificial ceremonies to pray for the aura of heaven and earth and the people to live and work in peace and contentment. At the same time, there are some folk activities related to fright, such as eating spring rolls, flying kites and setting off firecrackers, which are all to celebrate the arrival of spring and pray for good luck and a bumper harvest in the new year.
In a word, fright is an important festival in China's traditional solar terms. It not only symbolizes the arrival of spring, but also indicates the rebirth and recovery of nature and human society.
