How does the length of day and night change in the northern hemisphere in a year?

In the northern hemisphere, from the winter solstice to the solstice, the day length gradually increases until the vernal equinox, and then the day length continues to increase. During the summer solstice, the day length in all parts of the northern hemisphere reaches the maximum of one year, and then gradually becomes shorter until the autumnal equinox, and then continues to become shorter until the winter solstice reaches the minimum of one year, and so on.
