What is the mural in the Hall of the Great Hero of Qingliu Temple?
The murals in Daxiong Hall of Qinglong Temple in Jishan County, Shanxi Province are famous all over the country. There is a picture of hell on the indoor wall on the east side of the hall, which shows ghosts and soldiers in the underworld torturing people, such as at the end of the year, branding, caesarean section, digging heart, peeling, going up the knife mountain, going down the frying pan and so on. One of the punishments is sawing people. In the picture, a man is sandwiched by two long boards and stands upside down. The board is tied to people and fixed to another vertical wooden stake. Two ghost soldiers stood on both sides, and they sawed off two boards and the person in the middle of them at the same time. Blood flowed down the saw seam, and the man who was sawed seemed to scream in pain. This is a picture of hell and the temple of Yamaraja.
