Our oil painting ancestors have been exploring this topic almost from the beginning, and it is an indisputable fact that many oil painters have been working hard for it for a hundred years. I have always had this ambition. The central issue is that you have to have Chinese soul, China feelings, Chinese language, Chinese eyes and the story of China, which boils down to Chinese roots. I feel that the lack of my national culture has hindered the process of "China" in my oil painting. I hold a firm, prudent and persistent attitude towards China in oil painting, and put forward the academic methods of "understanding-cognition-synthesis and integration-creation" and "from digestion to creation". With this method, I have been exploring from the late 1970s to the present, and I have been taking a road of accumulation of "learning-thinking-understanding-displacement-change". My view and practice is that "Chinese-style" oil painting should not be simply painted as Chinese painting, but should be calm and firm. Don't worry, explore it bit by bit and let it come naturally. It should be a new style developed by the integration of eastern and western painting. First of all, it must have both the characteristics of oil painting and China temperament. I clearly know that this is a slow, difficult and gradual process that varies from person to person; However, it is promising and has a bright future, which needs the efforts of several generations of artists to pursue. Everyone should do something from their own perspective.
(3) Art is based on the "truth, goodness and beauty" of people. Only by persistence can there be "the truth of art". The "truth of art" is not limited to the realistic style, let alone naturalism; It is a transcendence of life produced by the sincere combination of subject and object that art should have. )
"The truth of art" is one's own artistic concept, not a copy of a certain school. It comes from one's own heart, one's own understanding of art, one's own rationality, one's own life experience and artistic practice, one's own feelings about the outside world, the reliability and clarity of artistic essence, one's own artistic feelings and artistic visual ways, one's own emotions and artistic visual expectations, and the non-utilitarian mentality when painting; In short, it comes from its own life subject, internal logic and life logic. At the same time, the change of artistic style must be based on the change of artistic concept, artistic thinking mode, artistic feeling and artistic viewing mode, which is determined by the above aspects. In the 1940s, Mr. Hong was born in Gulangyu, Xiamen. On this small island adjacent to Xiamen Island, there are not only lush subtropical plants, but also many unforgettable human landscapes. For example, Western-style architecture reflecting colonial culture and piano sound representing the cultural interest of Gulangyu people. These contents left a deep impression on Mr. Hong in his youth, so that this kind of memory can be seen everywhere in his later artistic creation activities.
Mr. Hong, a professor, is the first director of the Fine Arts Department of Xiamen University. Graduated from Wu Zuoren Studio of Oil Painting Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1960s. Later, he moved to Guizhou and Fujian. I used to be a middle school art teacher for eight years. Huang Yong _, an internationally renowned modern artist at that time, was his disciple. Whether studying in the Central Academy of Fine Arts or later being assigned to work in Guizhou and transferred to Xiamen to teach, Mr. Hong has been seriously developing his artistic life according to his own ideas.
In middle school, he got excellent grades in all subjects, but art was his favorite. Under the influence and guidance of the famous watercolor painter Mr. Zhang Houjin, when he finally applied for the university, he decided to go north and apply for the oil painting department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts according to his own interests. As a result, he was admitted. While studying, he chose Wu Zuoren Studio according to his own judgment. He not only accepted the guidance of many famous oil painting teachers such as Wu Zuoren and Ai Zhongxin, but more importantly, his study here also cultivated his artistic interest, that is, the expressive activities of oil painting should highlight the subtle, elegant, simple and sincere style. Mr. Ai Zhongxin once said: "Oil painting should be like China tea, which can be tasted." This sentence can be said to have a great influence on his artistic creation activities.
Anyone who knows Mr. Hong knows that he is a true, steady and independent person. At the end of 1970s, he took the step of artistic exploration, found his own direction and insisted on making his own art ... At that time, Huang Yong held a Dada exhibition in Xiamen, and a painter invited him to participate in the exhibition. He said, "Let me think about it for two days." Two days later, he said to his friend, "I am suitable for accumulation, but I still can't find the feeling." There is no exhibition.
The graduate student brought by Mr. Hong told me this way: "Mr. Hong lives a lonely life. In art, he never wants to compete with anyone. He just wants to live according to his own preferences and play his own. " Yes, Mr. Hong has his own views on art, his own taste and his own expression. He attaches importance to life, emphasizes feelings, and dreams that his creation can become a step in history through continuous cultivation. Whenever he talks about these things with his friends, his eyes will light up, his expression will become excited, and his usual caution will disappear.
Although on the surface, his works are romantic, fundamentally speaking, he is a China oil painter with classical ideas, and attaches great importance to the regularity and aesthetic value of artistic creation. He said: "Art is not a game, but labor." In order to do a good job in special art, he studied and studied the classics in the history of western art very extensively. For example, he painted the reliefs of the Parthenon in Greece, and also carefully visited the oil paintings of Ridega. However, in the process of learning, he opposed the learning method of skill for skill's sake and advocated learning without imitation. He said, "A master is a fire. It warms people, but it also burns them to death." We can only accept its influence, but we can't get close to it. "It is precisely because of this understanding that although we can see the traces of Impressionism, Nanabi, Fauvism and Expressionism in his works, there is always his own interpretation and creation.
