Weng Ziguang's Xun Mei is adapted from the sensational "Wang Jiamei dismemberment case" in 2008, starring Aaron Kwok, Xia Chun, Bai Zhi and Jin Yanling.
It premiered in Hong Kong on April 6, 20 15, and the film also achieved a double harvest in market and word of mouth, with good box office results. It also won nine nominations for the 52nd Taiwan Film Golden Horse Award and seven awards for the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards.
Because the case itself is bizarre, the film can only attract the attention of many viewers by general restoration. But the screenwriter of the film doesn't think so. The film is more concerned with "why did you kill people" than "who killed them". In the play, Aaron Kwok plays an old policeman, who shows the humanity of different groups to the audience through his perspective.
Under the shell of traditional Hong Kong-style mystery films, Xun Mei is full of extremely rich connotations. It magnifies the bright and dark side of human nature with cases, and makes the process of life go to ruin, showing loneliness and sadness.
