The northern region belongs to temperate monsoon climate. The areas north of Qinling-Huaihe Line, Daxing 'anling and Wushaoling East include all or most of the three northeastern provinces, five provinces and two cities in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, southeastern Gansu, eastern and northern Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu and northern Anhui. The terrain is mainly plain, with both plateau and mountain, and is rich in grain and mineral resources.

The northern region includes Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, northern Jiangsu, Shandong, northern Anhui, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia.
