How to repair the fault of Volvo throttle position (TP)

If the throttle position sensor is damaged, it will lead to engine jitter and unstable idle speed. When the car is driving, the engine is easy to stall, and it is difficult to drive or start. Replace the throttle position sensor with a new one and correct the fault.

Throttle position sensor, also known as throttle opening sensor or throttle switch, is mainly used to detect whether the engine is idling, loading, accelerating or decelerating.

It is essentially a variable resistor and several switches installed on the throttle body. Measure the resistance of the linear potentiometer, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, unplug the wire connector of the throttle position sensor, and measure the resistance of the linear potentiometer with a multimeter ohmmeter. The resistance should increase linearly with the increase of throttle opening.

Check the continuity between the terminals, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, unplug the connector, insert a thickness gauge with appropriate thickness between the throttle limit bolt and the limit lever, and measure the connector of the throttle position sensor by ohm to measure the continuity between the idle contact and the full load contact.
