Before and after which solar term is to plant melons and beans?
Planting melons and beans comes from a folk agricultural proverb: "Before and after Tomb-Sweeping Day, we planted melons and beans". April 5th is Tomb-Sweeping Day, one of the 24 solar terms. When Tomb-Sweeping Day arrived, the temperature rose and the rainfall increased. This kind of weather is a good time for spring sowing, and people begin to cultivate, so there is a proverb "Before and after Qingming, plant melons and beans".
Qingming is the fifth of the 24 solar terms and the beginning of the calendar. The time point is around the first day of the third lunar month (April 4-6 in Gregorian calendar), and the sun reaches longitude 15. Also known as "March Festival" or "Walking Festival".
