Why do you advocate interplanting corn with other crops in production?
(1) Make full use of natural resources and labor resources such as light, heat, water and soil to increase production and efficiency.
① Intercropping can improve the field environment and make full use of environmental resources. For example, the interplanting of potatoes and corn, potatoes are afraid of high temperature when flowering and fruiting, and need a humid environment. At this time, it is the jointing and booting stage of interplanting corn, which grows greatly and can play a role in shading and cooling potatoes, thus weakening the degradation of potato chips; After potatoes are ripe and harvested, ventilation and light transmission conditions are created for corn, which is beneficial to the growth of corn.
(2) Give play to marginal effect and take advantage of lateral advantages. For example, wheat and corn intercropping, wheat sowing early and harvesting early, corn is the opposite. Before wheat filling, the maize was in the seedling stage, and the plants were short, so the maize belt became the ventilation and light-transmitting channel of wheat. The marginal effect of marginal row wheat is obvious. When the plant height of corn exceeds that of wheat, especially after wheat harvest, wheat belt becomes the ventilation and light transmission channel of corn, and the ventilation and light transmission conditions of corn are improved.
③ Make full use of the growing period. As far as the growing season in northern North China and southern Northeast China is concerned, it is mostly more than one crop and less than two crops. Usually, early spring crops and big autumn crops are placed on the same land, and the two crops are connected together, so that the growing season is not wasted, and the two crops can be harvested in one place. For example, interplanting spring wheat and corn uses the land one month earlier than clearing corn. At the same time, the differences in the demand for light, temperature, water and fertilizer between the two crops in the growing period appear alternately in the seedling stage, vigorous stage and late stage, which can avoid mutual competition and make full use of the heat resources in the growing season.
④ Adjust stubble. Intercropping can not only improve the yield of subsequent crops, but also play a role in adjusting stubble, alleviating the contradiction between season and labor, and managing water and fertilizer because sowing and harvesting are earlier than continuous cropping.
(2) Stabilize production and ensure a bumper harvest
Different crops have different abilities to resist natural disasters. Reasonable intercropping, mixed cropping and interplanting can make use of the different characteristics of crops in the compound population and enhance their ability to resist adverse weather. For example, in areas with frequent typhoons and hail, corn and sweet potatoes can be intercropped. When damaged by strong winds and hail, corn may greatly reduce production or even fail to harvest, while sweet potato can ensure a certain yield and ensure a stable and guaranteed harvest for compound groups. Intercropping corn with Chinese cabbage can reduce the pests and diseases of the latter and achieve stable yield and guaranteed harvest.
(3) It is beneficial to alleviate the contradiction between crops competing for land and realize the increase of production and income of various crops.
China's agriculture is resource-constrained, and people, land, grain and capital cannot be completely solved under the existing technical level. Only by reasonably applying intercropping and interplanting and implementing multiple cropping system in one area can we alleviate the contradiction between grain, cotton, feed and fertilizer, promote the combination of land use and nutrition, thus alleviating the pressure of people, land, grain and money, and promoting the rational adjustment of agricultural structure and the sustained and stable development of agricultural production.
