Traditional Culture Encyclopedia - The 24 Solar Terms - Scientific nature of lunar solar terms
Scientific nature of lunar solar terms
I said, you are wrong. Do you think the ancients in China couldn't figure out how many days there were in a year? This is not high-tech, just stick a bamboo pole on the ground and observe the sun shadow every day.
Why is the lunar calendar more scientific? Because the lunar calendar is more difficult to arrange than the solar calendar and contains more information than the solar calendar. The Gregorian calendar only needs to coordinate two periods. One is the rotation period of the earth, which determines how long a day is, and the other is the period of revolution of the earth, which determines how long a year is. In the Gregorian calendar, months don't mean much. In the lunar calendar, it has to coordinate three cycles, one is the earth's rotation cycle, the other is the earth's period of revolution, and the other is the moon's period of revolution around the earth.
What is the use of the period of revolution on the moon? This is very useful. The period of the moon's revolution determines the visibility at night. There were not so many lighting devices in ancient times. If there is no moon at night, it will be dark everywhere. Hunting, walking and fighting at night are closely related to the brightness of the moon.
Since the lunar coordinate is the cycle of the moon's revolution, you can know the visibility of that night by looking at the calendar. The first day is a new moon, the moon has only a ray of light, the fifteenth is hope, the moon is the roundest, and the thirtieth is gloomy and dark. Gregorian calendar doesn't have this function at all. For example, on March 2 1 day of the Gregorian calendar, did you know that there was how bright on the moon that night? Go to Baidu and see how long it will take.
There are also 24 solar terms in the lunar calendar, and the first solar term of each month is "solar term", namely, beginning of spring, Jing Zhe, Qingming, Changxia, Mangzhong, Xiaoshu, beginning of autumn, Bailu, Hanlu, beginning of winter, Heavy Snow, Xiaohan, etc. 12 solar terms; The second solar term of each month is "Zhongqi", that is, there are 12 solar terms such as rain, vernal equinox, Grain Rain, Xiaoman, summer solstice, great heat, intense heat, autumnal equinox, first frost, light snow, winter solstice and great cold. This is arranged according to the period of revolution of the earth, so you can know at a glance what the climate conditions were at that time, which is convenient for arranging farming.
And the Gregorian calendar, to be honest, can also see what day it is today, whether to go to work or not, and nothing else. Therefore, the lunar calendar is much more scientific than the Gregorian calendar and can completely replace the Gregorian calendar.
