The Development History of She Nationality's Novels and Songs

The novels and songs of She nationality originated in Bailukeng Village, Xinan Town, Xiapu County, Fujian Province. Bailukeng is the most densely populated and culturally rich area of She nationality, and it can be called the first village in eastern Fujian. In the Qing Dynasty, the Bailukeng She people attached great importance to their own cultural education and survival and development. They set up private schools, started businesses and cultivated, and absorbed the advanced culture of the Han nationality. Among the She singers in this area, some literate people who can understand Zhang Hui's novels and Han ballads adapted them into oral and handwritten ballads of She folk songs and re-created them in combination with the characteristics of their own national language, thus giving birth to the earliest literary form of "novel songs".

As a long song, the novel song is a literary style and cultural carrier created by the She people. Historically, Xueji Zhong, Leiduo, Zhong Xuesuan and other outstanding singers appeared in Bailukeng Village, and their heyday was from the end of 19 to the end of the 20th century to the beginning of the Republic of China.
