Although Kunming belongs to the mid-low latitude area near the equator and lives inland, the temperature and climate are better than those in the same latitude area, which is the reason of topography.

Kunming is located on the plateau. Generally, the temperature will decrease with the elevation. With the increase of altitude 100 meters, the temperature will drop by 0.6 degrees. Therefore, the rise in altitude makes the temperature in Kunming lower than that in other places at the same latitude. In addition, Kunming is surrounded by mountains on three sides and lakes on one side, which also creates the climate of Kunming Spring City. Dianchi Lake is an important factor in regulating the climate in Kunming.

In winter, there is the problem of cold and warm fronts. In winter, there will be a front between Yunnan and Guizhou. Kunming is in the warm front and Guizhou is in the cold front, so Kunming is warm and dry in winter, and Guiyang is cold, rainy and prosperous. Although the two cities are also located in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, these unique natural conditions have created a spring-like climate in Kunming.
