What are the basic components of the air supply system?

1. air filter

Generally, it is a dry paper filter element, and its structure is the same as that of an ordinary engine.

2. Throttle body

The throttle body is installed in the intake pipe to control the air intake under the normal working condition of the engine.

It is mainly composed of throttle and idle air channel. The throttle position sensor is installed on the throttle shaft to detect the throttle opening. Some cars are also equipped with secondary throttle and secondary throttle position sensor, such as LS400.

The LS400 is also equipped with a traction control system (TRC). When the vehicle is in the TRC control state, it can ensure the best driving force and traction performance according to the road conditions (including muddy and wet roads) regardless of starting, uniform speed or acceleration and deceleration conditions, so as to make the vehicle run smoothly and safely.

In the driving state controlled by TRC, the main throttle of the engine is forcibly opened (fully opened) by the main throttle opener, and the air intake is controlled by the auxiliary throttle, and the throttle opening signal is also transmitted to the ECU by the auxiliary throttle position sensor.

Note: generally speaking, it is not allowed to adjust the throttle limit screw in the car equipped with the throttle limit screw. Unless the idle control valve fails and cannot be repaired in time, the engine can be kept idling by adjusting the minimum throttle opening. After troubleshooting, the throttle limit screw should return to its original position.

3. Air intake pipe

In order to eliminate intake fluctuation and ensure uniform intake of each cylinder, there are strict requirements on the shape and volume of intake manifold and manifold. For example, LS400 has a large-capacity air chamber in the air chamber, which reduces the air intake pulsation and the mutual interference between cylinders, and is beneficial to increase the air charge of each cylinder. There are four air intake pipes on both sides of the air chamber, and eight air intake manifolds are arranged in an S-shaped cross, which can increase the length of the air intake manifold, improve the harmonic pressure of the air intake, and help to further increase the air charge.

4. Maintenance of gas supply system

Attention should be paid to the following inspections during maintenance:

(1) Check whether the air filter element is dirty, and blow it clean with compressed air or replace it if necessary;

(2) The air leakage of the intake system has greater influence on the electronically controlled fuel injection engine than on the carburetor engine. Check that all connecting parts should be connected reliably and the gaskets should be intact;

(3) Check the scale and glue accumulation in the throttle cavity, and clean it with cleaning agent if necessary. Note: Do not use sandpaper and blades to clean dirt and glue.
