What is abstract painting?

Abstraction is a relative concept of concreteness. It is a new concept to take out the common ground of all kinds of things and synthesize them. This concept is called "abstraction". "Abstract painting" refers to the painting style that wanted to break away from "learning from nature" in the 20th century. It includes many schools, not the name of a school: its formation has evolved over a long period of time. However, no matter which school, its similarity lies in trying to break the traditional concept that painting must imitate nature. In the1930s and after World War II, various forms derived from abstract concepts became the most popular and unique artistic style in the 20th century.

Abstract painting is based on intuition and imagination, rejecting any symbolic, literary and explanatory expression, and only integrating shapes and colors into the picture. So the pure color presented by abstract painting is similar to music.

The development trend of abstract painting can be roughly divided into: (1) geometric abstraction or cold abstraction. This is based on Cezanne's theory and developed through cubism, constructivism and new formalism. It is characterized by a tendency to be geometric. This school of painting can be represented by mondriaan. (2) Lyrical abstraction (or hot abstraction) This is based on Gauguin's artistic concept, developed from Fauvism and Expressionism, and has a romantic tendency. This painting school is represented by ﹝Kandinsky﹞.

Representative painter

W kandinsky (1866 ~ 94), a representative painter of lyric abstraction, is the "father of abstract painting" and the leader of the German expressionist group "Blue Knight". Mondriaan (P. Mondrian, 1872 ~ 1944) is a representative painter of geometric abstraction school. He combined horizontal lines and vertical lines on a plane into a right angle or rectangle, in which three primary colors of red, yellow and blue were arranged, but sometimes gray was used. He is the leader of the Dutch deStijl, and his masterpiece "Yellow and Blue".

Malevic (K.C. Malevich, 1878 ~ 1935), an advocate of Russian constructivism, is also an abstract painter of geometry. His masterpieces include The Plane Takes off (19 15, new york Museum of Modern Art) and The Blue Triangle and Black.

F. kupka1871~1957 is a Czech painter. Use color theory and music harmony to create unique geometric styles, such as painting composition theme II (19 1 1 2, National Art Museum of Washington) and vertical line language practice (191).

By means of color harmony and abstraction, he has created many works full of philosophy and childlike interest, such as Goldfish (1925, oil painting and watercolor, paperboard mounting, 48.5×68.5cm, Hamburg Art Museum) and Roads and Branches (1929, oil painting and cloth, 89).
