Can chestnut be grafted before and after rainy solar terms?

Chestnut is a kind of fruit tree which is easy to graft and survive. It is suitable for rainy days. Almost all grafting methods can be used and can survive. Commonly used methods are grafting methods such as skin grafting, branch grafting, cutting grafting, abdominal grafting, joint grafting and root grafting.

Skin grafting, also known as subcutaneous grafting, is a method of inserting scions into the cambium of rootstocks. Cut the knife 3-5 cm away from the lower end of the scion and cut a horse-ear section. The upper part goes deep into the xylem 1/2. It is best not to cut the back, just sharpen the head. Two complete buds should be left at the top of each scion.

Generally, small rootstocks are cut at a distance of 10- 15 cm from the ground, and large rootstocks are sawed at a distance of 50- 100 cm from the ground, and the sawed surface should be leveled hard. Then make a longitudinal cut on the smooth part of the rootstock, and go deep into the xylem, with the length of 1-2 cm, and then insert the scion into the cambium of the longitudinal incision, and the scion at the upper part of the interface exposes the wound by 0.5 cm. After the scion is inserted, it is bound with plastic strips 3-4 cm wide and 40 cm long. If the rootstock is thick, 2-3 scions can be inserted in one section, which is beneficial to the wound healing of rootstock.

Subcutaneous abdominal junction. It is a method of abdominal grafting of rootstock, and it is also a grafting method of inserting scion into subcutaneous cambium of rootstock. In multi-head high grafting, in addition to cutting off the top of the big rootstock, in order to increase the number of branches in the inner chamber, bare branches can also be grafted in the abdomen. The method is to cut a T-shaped incision in the bark of the rootstock, and the bark above the incision is cut with a slope to facilitate the scion insertion. The scion is 20 cm in length, with long section, smooth surface and sharp front end. After the scion is inserted, the wound can be bandaged with plastic strips. The above two methods can only be used after the sap flows.
