On the day of fright, Hakka people in Tingzhou also have the custom of making taro sticks or eating taro dumplings. Taro is a symbol of "caterpillar" and eating taro is a symbol of extinction.

The Hakkas in Shangyou, Chongyi and Suichuan in Ji 'an were stunned. On the morning of this day, farmers put a handful of grain seeds, bean seeds, pumpkins, sunflower seeds and various vegetable seeds into a pot for frying, which is called "fried insects".
