Also known as Shangyuan Festival, Xiaoyuanyuan Festival, Yuanxi Festival or Lantern Festival, it falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month every year and is one of the traditional festivals in China. The first month is the first month of the lunar calendar, and the ancients called "night". The fifteenth day of the first month is the first full moon night in a year, so it is called "Lantern Festival".
By the Tang Dynasty, the Lantern Festival had developed into an unprecedented lantern market. The capital "made lanterns 20 feet high, resplendent in clothes, decorated with gold and silver, burning 50,000 lanterns and clustering them into flower trees".
