Cultivation and maintenance techniques of poplar

It takes 2-4 weeks from cutting to rooting and spreading leaves. At this stage, cuttings are most likely to lose water balance and have weak resistance, and cuttings that cannot take root in time will die.

Maintaining the appropriate humidity of soil is the key point of management in this period. In severe drought, it is necessary to irrigate the soil 1 time. After irrigation, shallow hoe should be done in time to prevent surface hardening, otherwise the survival rate will be reduced.

From the time when high growth rises sharply to the time when high growth falls sharply, our province is from early June to mid-September. This period is in the hot and rainy season, and the seedlings grow fast and need nutrition most. Urea should be topdressing twice. The simple method is to spread urea at the rate of 10 kg/mu before the rain, and the fertilizer will dissolve into the soil after the rain.

Cutting seedling

Choosing a good nursery is the key to the success of poplar seedling raising. Rooting and seedling raising are widely carried out in our province. If the nursery site is not selected properly, it will affect the nursery effect in the next 3-4 years. The nursery should choose loose sandy loam or light loam, and should not choose clay and "all-sand" land with poor water and fertilizer conservation.

Nursery land should be flat with convenient transportation, the groundwater level should not exceed 1 m, and the soil thickness should not be less than 0.8m.. There is a lot of rain in our province, so we should pay special attention not to choose the nursery in the low-lying flat land that is easy to waterlogging, and the drainage conditions are good, so that the accumulated water can be discharged quickly when the precipitation is heavy in summer.

Before cutting, apply 80 ~ 100 kg of compound fertilizer per mu, plough 30 ~ 35 cm deep in the nursery, rake it flat in time to preserve moisture. High bed should be adopted for seedling raising in our province, with bed width 1.6 ~ 1.8m (inserted in 3 rows) or 1 ~ 1.2m, and the three ditches should be well coordinated to reduce the groundwater level and ensure no dark spots.
