The origin of the word spring

Today's regular script "Spring" was written by Han Li.

In early Oracle Bone Inscriptions (Figure A), the shape of "Spring" is three "Woods" and a "Sun" with a "Tun" in the middle (Figure G), with three "Woods" and a "Sun" as ideographic characters. The original intention is that the sun shines in spring and thousands of trees are brilliant.

The phonetic symbol "Tun" has evolved from Oracle Bone Inscriptions in Figure (g) to the inscriptions in Figures (h) and (i), to the seal script in Figure (j), and then to the word "Tun" today. In Shang and Zhou Oracle Bone Inscriptions, the word "Tun" was often used as the word "Spring" (such as "Today Tun" and "Laitun", meaning "This Spring" and "Coming Spring").

In the Spring and Autumn Period, the shape of the word "Spring" on bronze inscriptions (Figure B) was quite different from that of Oracle Bone Inscriptions. Three "trees" have become two new buds (see Figure F, the prefix of "grass"), and "Tun" has also become the shape of Figure (H). Therefore, the word "Chun" in inscriptions on bronze inscriptions is still pictophonetic, with "Tun" as the phonetic symbol.

The seal script of Qin Dynasty (Figure C) is based on bronze inscriptions, and the symbols and notes can also be seen.

However, after the official change (that is, see Figure D), Fu and Tun were combined into one, and the top of the word "Spring" was changed to three "+"(flowers) and one "person". Later, when it developed to Han Li (Figure E), the original "God" and "Tun" combined to become "?" (spring prefix), "?" The "day" still exists, and it has changed a lot, completely abrupt.

So signifiers and harmony symbols are invisible; The configuration of words can no longer make the reading text know the meaning.
