Most graduate students enrolled in various research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences study theoretical knowledge in the graduate school in the first year and then return to their respective research institutes in the second year.

The Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences was formerly the Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences established by 1928 and the Institute of Physics of Peking Research Institute established by 1929. The Institute of Applied Physics of China Academy of Sciences was established on the basis of the merger of 1950, and its current name was opened on June 8th.
