How and when to plant lotus roots?
Planting time
The planting time of lotus root is related to the region and temperature. Generally speaking, the best time to plant lotus roots is March and April every year. The optimum temperature for lotus root growth is about 20 to 30 degrees, so the earliest planting temperature of lotus root must be above 15 degrees, otherwise the survival rate is not high. The temperature difference between the north and the south of China is a little big, so lotus roots are usually planted in February and March in the south, and it will be planted a little later in April and May in the north.
Planting method
1, seed selection
When selecting lotus root seeds, we should pay attention to whether there are new buds growing under the lotus root, and some new roots will grow next to the new buds, so that seedlings can be planted directly. Secondly, when selecting seeds, we will choose at least three complete lotus roots, and try to choose some complete lotus roots that look bigger, have no disease, and the newly grown buds look lush. The bigger the lotus seed, the better, so that the newly developed young lotus will be better.
Step 2 sow seeds
Try not to leave the lotus seeds for too long. Generally, you should plant it immediately after you have chosen it. Before planting, lotus seeds should be treated and mixed with targeted chemicals before planting, which can prevent many diseases caused by the environment in the growth process in advance. When planting, plant it as deep as possible, so that the lotus roots will grow big and good. Planting density is estimated according to the size of the pond you choose. Generally, the lotus root grows faster and has a larger area, so it is usually planted every 30 to 50 cm, and soon it will fill the whole pond.
3. Tian Tuan management
After planting for about a month, lotus leaves and lotus flowers will grow slowly in the pond. At this time, some leaves and buds should be removed to prevent them from absorbing a lot of nutrients and hindering the growth of lotus roots. In the process of lotus root growth, we need to fertilize once when five or six lotus leaves grow, mainly to prove whether it is alive or not. Secondly, we need to fertilize again after the lotus leaves in the pond are basically full, which means that many tiny tender lotus roots have appeared and need sufficient nutrients. The last fertilization is that no new leaves grow in the pond, which means that the lotus root in the pond is growing slowly and needs a lot of nutrients to maintain its growth. Finally, the water level of the pond should not be too deep or too shallow, and it should generally be controlled at 10 to15cm.
Step 4 harvest
When the color on the back of the terminal leaves of lotus root is a little red, it means that the lotus root is mature and can be harvested. Because the lotus root is deep, and you don't know how long it is, you should slowly dig along its terminal leaves to its original leaves, so that the dug lotus root is the most complete.
