There is a tradition of lion dancing all over the country. When was the tradition of lion dancing formed in China?
Lion dance has lasted for more than 1000 years, forming two performance styles: North and South. The lion dance in China originated from the "Northern Lion". According to legend, during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386-534), Emperor Wu made an expedition to Hexi, Gansu, and captured as many as100000 people.
The emperor ordered his servants to let the conference semifinals dance and entertain. Hu people carved animal heads, two big and five small, dressed in animal clothes, gathered eight music, and more than 30 warriors danced in front of the command. Liang Wudi was so happy that he was named "Ruishi of the Northern Wei Dynasty" and allowed the prisoners to return home.
Lion dance spread in the north and was later called "Northern Lion".
The lion dance of the Northern School mainly performed the "Wushi", that is, the "Ruishi" appointed by Wei Wudi in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Little lions dance alone, and big lions dance in pairs. One stood and danced the lion's head, and the other bent down to dance the lion's body and tail. Under the guidance of "Lion Lang", the lion performs somersault, jumping, high jump, bowing and other techniques, as well as some difficult movements such as walking plum blossom piles, jumping on tables and stepping on rolling balls. There are also stunts such as flying to the ground and climbing walls.
There are several legends about dancing Southern Lion in China. One of the legends is that in the Qing Dynasty (A.D.1644 ~1911), when Emperor Qianlong went down to the south of the Yangtze River, he dreamed that a colorful Swiss beast came to worship. After returning to Beijing, Emperor Qianlong ordered people to make one according to the image of the auspicious beast he saw in his dream. Every time he ordered people to dance at festivals and celebrations, it was said that it was peaceful and auspicious. It symbolizes peace and people live and work in peace.
Because the lion is the statue of all animals, its image is majestic and martial, the ancients regarded it as a symbol of courage and strength, and thought it could ward off evil spirits and protect people and animals. Therefore, people will almost dance lions in large festivals.
