How were bronze inscriptions carved?

Shang and Zhou bronze inscriptions are cast characters. Before casting, another model with inscription should be made and embedded in the main model. Some inscriptions are well embedded and there are no obvious traces around them; There are also tables with poor embeddedness and prominent modularity. When casting long inscriptions in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, it is necessary to draw lines or lay grids. Generally speaking, the inscriptions are horizontal and straight, and the technicians who carved Fan Tao inscriptions are very skilled.

The writing is also very smooth.

The inscription on the model block is a positive line. After carving is completed, it should be embedded in the main model while it is wet. The font thickness should be corrected to avoid contact with external models. Maybe with a little restraint, use the master mold to correct it, so that the orthography is big, and the inscription is often small and the bottom is big, which can be found by careful observation. At the same time, the mouth of the font is as uniform as ground glass, and the turning of the font strokes is very natural. Of course, this only applies to some bronzes of Shang Dynasty and early Western Zhou Dynasty. Some of the inscriptions carved by later generations are original, the space is rigid and dull, and there are hidden or obvious knives in the mouth. The bronze ware cast by sand casting method has coarse clay particles, and the surface of inscription strokes is different from that of fine clay casting.
