Tomb-Sweeping Day in Taiwan Province and Hongkong and Macau in China have always been regarded as legal public holidays. This festival was restored as a public holiday in Chinese mainland in 2008, which was previously banned by the ruling communist party in 1949.

Tomb-Sweeping Day (Chinese: Tomb-Sweeping Day), Tomb-Sweeping Day, Tomb Sweeping Festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day is a traditional festival in China, which usually takes place on April 5th of Gregorian calendar (see China calendar) from winter to the next104th day (or15th day after vernal equinox). In astronomy, it is also a solar term (see Qingming). On the first day of the fifth solar term, Tomb-Sweeping Day was named Qingming. Its name symbolizes the time when people go outdoors, enjoy the greenery of spring and take care of the graves of the dead.
