Traditional custom of summer vacation

1, fishing festival

For coastal fishermen, summer is a good season for fishing and harvesting. Every year, during the summer and solar terms, the annual grand fishing festival will be held in the coastal areas of Zhejiang Province. It was decided to hold a grand fishing ceremony on the day of the fishing moratorium in the East China Sea to see the fishermen off to sea.

On the occasion of the fishing festival, the static sea surface, which was originally full of sails and thousands of cranes anchored, instantly became an active scene with the roar of machines, the long whistle and the chirping of hundreds of cranes. The main contents of the fishing festival include the hanging of fishing lanterns by thousands of families, the ceremony of contending for thousands of boats, the special performance of literary evening, island tourism, the display of special products, local folk cultural performances and other activities.

2. Worship the land god

The summer solar term coincides with the harvest season of crops, and farmers hold various ceremonies to thank the land god. Some killed animals to worship in the land temple, some planted flags in the middle of the field to express their gratitude, and some didn't wash their feet when they came home from work in the field on this day, for fear of washing away the harvest.

On July 15th, offering sacrifices to land and crops is still a folk custom. Scatter sacrifices in the fields. After burning the paper, wrap it on the ears of crops with cut five-color paper. 3. Worship ancestors to welcome autumn

Most of the folk customs around the summer solar terms are related to ancestor worship and welcoming autumn. Around the summer vacation, there will be folk activities to celebrate the Central Plains, commonly known as "July 30" or "Central Plains Festival".

In the old society, people began to open the gate of hell on the first day of July, and it didn't end until the end of the month. During this period, Purdue giving activities were held. It is said that Purdue activities started with the opening of the gate of hell, and then lanterns were erected and river lanterns were set off, causing lonely souls and wild ghosts; The main body is to build Pudu altar, build solitary shed, and intervene in robbing orphans. Finally, it ends with closing the gate of hell.

This custom has been popular since the Tang Dynasty. In summer, every household has the habit of frying herbal tea. First go to the drugstore to make a prescription, and then cook tea at home, which means that eating something "bitter" in autumn is quite beneficial to clearing away heat and fire, resolving food stagnation and removing lung heat.

In the sixties and seventies of last century, there were tea stalls selling sour plum soup in the streets and alleys of the city, so there was a proverb that "sour plum soup is extinct in midsummer". Ducks are full of treasures. Duck meat is sweet, salty and cold, and has the functions of nourishing yin and stomach, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling. 6. Eat longan with porridge

The living custom of old Fuzhou is to eat longan with porridge in summer, because the weather in summer is hot and the human body consumes a lot of calories. Eating longan can supplement calories. Longan is warm, beneficial to the heart and spleen, qi and blood, and has the function of nourishing and benefiting qi. The older generation ate a bowl of longan and ate it with porridge.

In addition, another food that old Fuzhou eats in summer is white meatballs. White meatballs are actually dumplings. The method is simple. 7. River lamp

River lanterns are also called "lotus lanterns". Generally, a lamp or a candle is placed on the base, and it is placed in rivers, lakes and seas during the Mid-Autumn Festival, allowing it to float freely. River lanterns are for ghosts such as drowning in Purdue water.
