A love letter sent to heaven

When I closed Shunji Iwai's love letter, I couldn't help crying. This is a love story written for youth. Reading it carefully today is like slowly turning over an old yellowed photo album. Love without any distractions is simple and beautiful, like snowflakes flying in winter.

On the night of the second anniversary of her fiance Fujii's death, Bozi wrote such a letter. The recipient has gone to heaven, and the address was found in his junior high school graduation photo album. His mother said the address had been changed to national highway. However, Bozi unexpectedly received a reply from a girl with the same name and surname as Fujii Tree (I will call her "Tree" for the sake of distinction).

The story of the love letter begins here. The girl and Hiroko were wary at first, but then they faced it sincerely and became pen pals. In their correspondence, the long-standing secret love of male Fujii tree for female Fujii tree gradually revealed a clue.

The story goes on slowly in their correspondence, like a stream flowing slowly when the snow and ice melt.

At the end of the story, Bozi said goodbye to Fujii on the killed snow mountain. She shouted at the snow-capped mountains, "How are you? I'm fine. " Yelling and crying like a child.

The girl "Shu" finally saw the portrait that Fujii Shu painted on the back of the library card more than ten years ago. She finally understood this pure love, but unfortunately everything became a memory.

1. Teenage Fujii

I have read a saying that a twinkling star we see in the night sky may actually come from a fallen galaxy.

In the novel, Fujii's secret love for "trees" is like distant starlight. Although the stars have disappeared, the light of love will bring a lot of warmth and happiness to the tree.

The junior high school of the girl "Shu" is undoubtedly the darkest time in her life, because Fujii Shu, who has the same name as herself, has been laughed at by her classmates.

It happened that Fujii Shu was an indifferent and silent boy who didn't know how to express himself, because this "nemesis" and "tree" had a lot of troubles. Although Fujii has been secretly in love with her, she has been avoiding him like a plague.

In the third year, my father died of pneumonia caused by an unexpected cold. Mom complained about grandpa. She thought grandpa was going to the hospital behind his father's back to delay the rescue. In fact, grandpa tried to go to the hospital for 38 minutes. His father's death was not grandpa's fault. Losing father's love, mother and grandfather look similar, and "tree" grew up in such an atmosphere.

2. Fujii Shu

In the novel, Fujii is a man who went to heaven. Shunji Iwai described a Fujii tree to us through other people's eyes and mouths: cold, introverted, taciturn, fond of painting and climbing mountains.

He never dares to speak in front of the girl he likes. Even on the day of proposing marriage, he called Bozi to the rooftop, holding a ring box in his hand and saying nothing. They were silent for two hours. Finally, Bozi felt sorry for him and said to him, "Let's get married."

Such a silent person must have suppressed too many emotions. He is also a lucky man. He has a crush on a girl in junior high school. This secret love is a kind of happiness.

Later, when he first met Bozi Watanabe, the girl who was hidden in her heart came back, just because Bozi and the tree looked too similar, so he said, "Does Miss Watanabe believe in love at first sight?" "Please be my girlfriend."

Fujii is a happy man. Even when he fell off the cliff, at the last moment of his life, he still sang Seiko Matsuda's Blue Coral Reef loudly. This is a cheerful song. He sang to two girls he loved and never regretted it.

3. Hiroko Watanabe

Two years after Fujii's death, Hiroko still can't get out of this deep love. In the correspondence with "Tree", she learned that "love at first sight" in Fujiwellhead was only because she looked like "Tree". She felt cheated, and she was jealous. However, one day, it suddenly occurred to her:

I can't help crying. I'm happy for Boz. She finally decided to let go and move on with her life.

I don't know why, here, I thought of "Jianghu is better than forgetting each other" (from Zhuangzi's "The Great Master in Zhuangzi").

For two years, Bozi has been living in memories and pain. Such love has completely lost its meaning. It is better to get rid of each other and forget the rivers and lakes. Fujii in heaven will feel at ease.

This novel has a lot of room for dialogue between characters, which I think is the soul of the whole novel. The language is restrained, gentle and simple, and every word is moving, and every sentence is full of emotion.

When I first read Shunji Iwai's novels, I liked this writing style very much. Some people say that he must be a person with a lot of love in his heart, otherwise he could not write such a warm pure love novel.

The film "Love Letter" directed by Shunji Iwai opened in China on May 20th this year. I invited a friend to watch it yesterday. The film is basically the same as the picture I imagined in words.
