Yuan Jiagu's Achievements and Contributions

1903, the Qing government conducted the only special economic examination after the abolition of the imperial examination in history. It is understood that the examination of special economic subjects is different from the general imperial examination. It is not good at stereotyped writing, but mainly focuses on the methods of helping the people and governing the country, and pays more attention to applying what they have learned. There were only three special examinations (the other two were learned subjects) in the whole Qing Dynasty, and this time there were people who had already won the top prize, so the status of the economic special yuan should be higher than that of the ordinary top prize. Surprisingly, among the 306 people who took part in the national examination, Yuan Jiagu, a native of Shiping, Yunnan, won the first place in the economics topic, which made up the blank that "Yunnan did not rank first". In Qing Dynasty, Yuan Jiagu was known as "the third person in the world" and was called "the best scholar" by the people.

When the news reached Yunnan, Kunming people renamed Jukui Building on Tuodong Road as Zhuangyuan Building, and Wei Wuzhuang, the governor of Yunnan, wrote a letter to congratulate on Dakui Tianxia. 1999, the Zhuangyuan Building in Kunming was rebuilt in Shiping County, Yuan Jiagu's hometown, as a memorial.

In Yunnan, Yuan Jiagu is the only champion in history. When the news came, there was a sensation in all directions. A "Jukui Building" was built in Kunming, and a plaque "Dakui Tianxia" was inscribed by Governor Wei Wu Zhuang. People call it "Zhuangyuan Building". When Yuan Jiagu returned to Yunnan to climb the Zhuangyuan Building, it was the time when the film was on the rise, and he also made a documentary to commemorate it. After Yuan Jiagu won the top prize, he first served as a Beijing official, and later as an editor and assistant in the Imperial Academy.

Yuan Jiagu is the first person in the history of education who is responsible for compiling textbooks for primary and secondary schools. Common terms such as "Zhou" and "Yue Ge" were newly formulated by Yuan Jiagu at that time.
