The difference between Mid-Autumn Festival and Double Ninth Festival
Two different customs
Three different sources
Double Ninth Festival, time: the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, called "Double Ninth Festival". Origin of festival name: There are six Yin and nine Yang in the concept of Yin and Yang of post-Ye Confucianism in Hanzhong. Nine is the number of yang, and the real nine is also called "Chongyang". People have the custom of climbing mountains on that day, so the Double Ninth Festival is also called "Mountaineering Festival". There are also sayings such as Double Ninth Festival, Cornus officinalis and Chrysanthemum Festival. Because the homonym of "Jiujiu" on the ninth day of September is "Jiujiu", it has a long meaning.
Custom: ancestor worship and respect for the elderly are held on this day, and people climb mountains.
Source: The Book of Changes defines "six" as yin number and "nine" as yang number. On September 9, the sun and the moon meet and are twofold, so it is called Chongyang, also known as the Double Ninth Festival. The ancients thought it was an auspicious day to celebrate, and they began to celebrate it from a very young age.
Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional festival in China. Time: August 15th of the lunar calendar every year. Origin of festival name: August is the second month of autumn, which was called Mid-Autumn Festival in ancient times. Because it is in the middle of autumn and August, it is called Mid-Autumn Festival, also called Autumn Evening, August Festival, August Half Day, Moon Festival, and because the moon is full on this day, it symbolizes reunion, so it is also called Reunion Festival.
Custom: enjoy the moon, put up incense tables and eat moon cakes.
Origin: the worship of the moon in ancient times, the custom of singing and dancing under the moon to find a spouse, and the custom of worshipping the land god in autumn in ancient times.
