The origin of Grain Rain

Legend has it that the Jade Emperor gave Grain Rain to the world because of his great merits in creating characters in Cangjie. This is the origin of Grain Rain.

According to the records of Liu An and his favorite pupil Huai Nanzi in the Western Han Dynasty, the emperor gave Cang Xie a gold man, and he felt guilty and sent him back. One day when I was sleeping, I heard someone calling him: "You don't want any gold people that the Jade Emperor gave you, so what do you want?" Cang Xie shouted in his sleep: "The people are hard. If only all the people in the world had food."

The next day, when Cang Xie was about to go out, he was caught in a sudden heavy rain. It rained heavily for nearly half an hour in Xiaomi, covering the whole village. Cang Xie was both happy and surprised. He remembered the scene in his dream and knew that it was a reward from the Jade Emperor, so he quickly sent someone to tell the Yellow Emperor.

Due to Cang Xie's contribution, the Yellow Emperor designated the day of Grain Rain as Grain Rain Festival, and ordered people all over the world to sing and dance every year to thank God. In some places, this day is even regarded as a festival to worship Cang Xie.

There is a custom of eating Toona sinensis in Grain Rain in the north. Toona sinensis was listed around Grain Rain. At this time, Toona sinensis is mellow and refreshing, with high nutritional value. It is said that Toona sinensis is tender as silk before the rain.

Grain Rain is also an important time for peony flowers to bloom, so peony flowers are also called "Grain Rain flowers". "Three generations of Grain Rain visited peony", and peony appreciation became an important recreational activity in people's leisure time.
