Nine-steaming and nine-baking process

The technological process of nine-steaming and nine-drying is to wash and cut the medicinal materials to be processed, and then steam them repeatedly and alternately.

Nine steaming and nine drying is one of the processing methods of Chinese herbal medicines, including two actions, one is steaming and the other is drying. The main purpose is to correct the medicinal properties of medicinal materials or increase medicinal components and reduce toxic components.

When steaming medicine, the water is usually boiled, and then the medicine is steamed on low heat for 6 to 12 hours until it is completely steamed, and then the medicine is taken out and spread out in the sun. It is not suitable to dry medicinal materials in foggy days or just after rain and snow, and it is not suitable to spread frost and dew in the morning. Medicinal materials must be dried. If it cannot be completely dried within one day, it can be dried again the next day until it is completely dried. The so-called nine is actually a large and numerous number mentioned by the ancients, and does not necessarily mean the exact nine times. Generally, the number of times of evaporation is judged by the color and shape of medicinal materials.
