Three-way catalytic converters usually need to be cleaned every 30,000 kilometers. 1. Three-way catalysis refers to the catalytic action of converting harmful gases such as CO, HC and nitrogen oxides in automobile exhaust into harmless carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen through oxidation and reduction;

2. Three-way catalytic converter is mainly used. The carrier part of the three-way catalytic converter is porous ceramic material, which is installed in the special exhaust pipe. It is called carrier because it does not participate in catalytic reaction, but is coated with precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, palladium and rare earth. It is the most important external purification device installed in the automobile exhaust system.

When the high-temperature automobile exhaust gas passes through the purification device, the purifying agent in the three-way catalyst will enhance the activity of CO, HC and nitrogen oxides, prompting them to carry out certain redox chemical reactions, in which CO is oxidized into colorless and nontoxic carbon dioxide gas at high temperature, HC compound is oxidized into water H2O and carbon dioxide at high temperature, and nitrogen oxides are reduced into nitrogen and oxygen. Three kinds of harmful gases become harmless gases, which can purify automobile exhaust.
