The origin of ghost festival in July

In ancient China, people thought that the 15th day of the seventh lunar month was the darkest day of the year, and the gate of hell was wide open, so the deceased ancestors could go home for reunion, so it was called Ghost Festival.

On the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known as Ghost Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is actually a Taoist festival, and today it has become an important folk custom in Singapore society-Mid-Autumn Festival.

Sacrificing ancestors on July 14/ 15 is a traditional cultural festival popular in Chinese character cultural circles of various countries and overseas Chinese areas, and it is also a traditional festival to worship ancestors on the same footing as New Year's Eve, Tomb-Sweeping Day and Chung Yeung Festival.

The custom of ancestor worship in July and a half has existed since ancient times. It was originally a folk festival to worship ancestors, not a "ghost festival" ("ghost festival" was later said, probably evolved from the Taoist thought of opening the gate of hell in Yuan Dynasty).

On the Mid-Autumn Festival, many people will hold sacrificial activities with wine, meat, sugar cakes, fruits and other sacrifices between the first day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, in order to comfort the ghosts who are playing on earth and pray for their safety and success all the year round.
