When is Arbor Day?

March 12 is Arbor Day in China.

Due to the evolution of the times, the Arbor Day in China has been revised three times.

Sun Yat-sen was the first person in the modern history of China who recognized the importance of forests and advocated afforestation. After the Revolution of 1911, in the fourth year of the Republic of China (19 15), at the initiative of Sun Yat-sen, Zhou Ziqi, director of the General Administration of Agriculture and Commerce, appointed Tomb-Sweeping Day as Arbor Day, designated the place and selected the tree species, and all levels of governments, institutions and schools in China attended as scheduled, held Arbor Day ceremonies and held tree planting activities. After it was approved on July 2 1 day of that year, the whole country was ordered to comply with it as scheduled.

17 (1928) After the Northern Expedition was completed, on April 7, the Kuomintang government ordered the whole country: "The Qingming Arbor Day in the old calendar was changed to the tree planting method to commemorate the death of the Prime Minister." 18 (1929) On February 9th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Mines announced by ministerial order "Tree planting methods in various provinces to commemorate the death of the Prime Minister". Yi Peiji, Minister of Agriculture and Mines of the Executive Yuan of the National Government, actively advocated tree planting according to Dr. Sun Yat-sen's wishes, and submitted it to the Executive Yuan and the people in February of the Republic of China 19 (1930). March 9th to15th was the "Publicity Week of Afforestation Campaign", and a tree planting ceremony was held on the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death on 12. In the northern region, it is early March, and the cold has not disappeared, so it is not suitable for planting trees. It is specially stipulated that tree planting will still be held on March 12, and the greening publicity activities will be extended to Tomb-Sweeping Day this week. And by the Ministry of Land and Resources announced the "provincial, municipal and county afforestation campaign publicity week program" 7, so that all localities can follow suit.

After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), in February 1979, at the sixth meeting of the Standing Committee of the Fifth NPC, Luo Yuchuan, director of the General Administration of Forestry, submitted the Forest Law (Trial Draft) for deliberation, and stated that "March 12 was decided as China Arbor Day", which was adopted by the General Assembly. 19811February 13, the Fourth Session of the Fifth National People's Congress discussed and adopted a resolution on launching a nationwide voluntary tree planting campaign. Since then, the nationwide voluntary tree planting campaign has been implemented as a law throughout the country. The following year, the State Council promulgated the "Implementation Measures for Carrying out the National Voluntary Tree Planting Campaign".

China has a vast territory, the climate is quite different, and the time suitable for planting trees varies from place to place. Therefore, many provinces and cities have also stipulated their own tree planting days, tree planting weeks and tree planting months.

The origin of Arbor Day

March 12 is the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death. Mr. Zhongshan attached great importance to forestry construction before his death. Shortly after the establishment of the Nanjing government of the Republic of China, where he was the interim president, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was established in May 19 12, and the State Forestry Administration was headed by the Forest Department. 191410/In June, the first forestry law in China's modern history was promulgated, and in July, 19 15, the government designated Tomb-Sweeping Day as Arbor Day every year.

In February, the 6th meeting of the 5th the NPC Standing Committee passed a resolution to designate March 12 as China Arbor Day. The significance of this resolution lies in mobilizing the people of all ethnic groups in China to actively plant trees and speeding up the greening of the motherland and various forestry construction. Our country designated the date of Sun Yat-sen's death as Arbor Day, also to commemorate Sun Yat-sen's great achievements, symbolizing that his unfinished wish will be realized in new China and will be better realized. At the initiative of Comrade Deng Xiaoping, the Fourth Session of the Fifth National People's Congress adopted a resolution on launching a nationwide voluntary tree planting campaign. 1990 March 12, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued a set of four stamps for "greening the motherland" again. The first stamp is "voluntary tree planting by the whole people".

Arbor Day was first established in modern times in Nebraska, USA. In April 1872, 10, Morton put forward the proposal of establishing strong regulation at a meeting held by the Nebraska Landscape Architecture Association. The state adopted Morton's suggestion, designated April 10 as the state's Arbor Day, and issued the world's first Arbor Day stamp in 1932, showing two children planting trees.

According to United Nations statistics, Arbor Day has been established in more than 50 countries in the world. Due to different national conditions and geographical locations, the names and times of Arbor Day are different in different countries, such as Arbor Day and Greening Week in Japan.
