Common faults of n55 engine

The n55 engine is a product introduced by BMW to replace the previous n54 engine. N54 has dual turbocharging technology, and n55 has single turbine and dual scroll turbocharging technology. The n55 engine is equipped with dual vanos and valvetronic electronic valve technologies that BMW is proud of.

Most vehicle engines control the air flow into the engine through the throttle, but BMW is different. The throttle of BMW engine is only partially closed at idle speed. After opening, the throttle valve is fully open. It is the engine valve that controls the intake of the engine. Pressing the accelerator pedal will directly act on the engine valve. This control method makes the BMW engine respond quickly, and the engine will respond to the driver's operation almost at the moment of stepping on the accelerator.

N55 engine is easy to burn oil, but this is caused by two reasons. First, the sealing performance of the valve oil seal decreases. The valve oil seal is also made of rubber. Working at high temperature and high pressure for a long time will make rubber lose its elasticity and its sealing performance become worse. At this time, the oil will flow to the engine combustion chamber along the valve guide rod, and the oil flowing to the combustion chamber will participate in the combustion process, which will cause the n55 engine to burn oil. To solve this problem, we only need to replace the aging valve oil seal.

The second reason for n55 burning engine oil is the design of cylinder surface. German automobile engines generally have high speed. In order to ensure that there is enough oil to lubricate the cylinder block at high speed, German cars will process grid lines on the surface of the cylinder block. These grid lines can store a part of engine oil and lubricate the cylinder block when the engine is running at high speed.

This grain design also exists on the cylindrical surface of n55, which causes the oil stored in the grain to evaporate when n55 runs at low speed. In fact, this design of German cars is not suitable for the road conditions in China. Two-thirds of expressway in Germany is unlimited, and the expressway network in Germany is developed. Germans often drive at a speed of more than 200 kilometers per hour in expressway, and the traffic jam situation is much better than that in China, so the engine will not always run at a low speed range, and the oil stored in the line will not be evaporated. On the domestic roads with serious traffic jams, the engine is in the low speed range most of the time, so the oil stored in the grain will be evaporated.
