Traditional Culture Encyclopedia - The 24 Solar Terms - Xiaoman is the first of the 24 solar terms.
Xiaoman is the first of the 24 solar terms.
After Xiaoman eats enough, the weather will gradually turn from warm to hot, and the precipitation will gradually increase. There is a saying in the folk proverb that "the villain is full of rivers". Xiaoman marks the appearance of summer. At this point, it is too small to be full: summer crops such as wheat are full but immature, so it is called Xiao Man.
For the northern region, Xiaoman is often the longest sunshine time among the 24 solar terms. "More sunshine will make it bright" and the air is dry, so the temperature in some places in the north can easily exceed that in the south.
Xiaoman has three grades, first-class bitter vegetable show, second-class weeds withered, third-class wheat autumn. In the harvest season, early spring crops are about to be harvested, mid-season rice is sown in an all-round way, and farming is busy, and harvest is grabbed in sunny days and sowing is grabbed in rainy days.
Historical origin of solar terms in Xiao Man;
The name Xiaoman has two meanings. First, it is related to the agricultural climate. "Xiaoman, in mid-April, means that the gas of wheat has arrived at Xiaoman because it is not ripe yet." The second is related to precipitation. As the proverb goes, "a small man will succeed, and the river will be full." Heavy rains began to increase in the south, with frequent precipitation. Full, can refer to the maturity of grain, can also refer to the excess of rain. Agricultural proverbs in southern China give Xiaoman a new meaning: "Xiaoman is not satisfied with the broken ridge"; "Xiao is full of discontent, regardless of mango."
"Twenty-four solar terms" describes that "in mid-April, the small ones are full, and the small ones are full." At this time, the seeds of summer sowing crops such as wheat in the north have begun to be full, but they are not yet mature, which is about the late stage of milk ripening, so it is called Xiaoman, which is a solar term indicating phenological changes.
