Gasoline is mainly composed of alkanes, cycloalkanes and alkenes with 5 ~ 1 1 carbon atoms, and its boiling point is below 205. Gasoline is the fuel used in gasoline engines, and its performance has a great influence on the working conditions and performance of gasoline engines. Blast resistance

Antiknock is one of the important performance indexes of gasoline, which indicates the ability of gasoline to resist deflagration when burning in cylinder, and is expressed by octane number. Octane number is determined by comparative experiments. The comparative experiment is to compare the deflagration intensity of the tested gasoline with that of the standard mixture on a special testing machine.

On the special single-cylinder testing machine with variable compression ratio, the gasoline engine is operated under certain conditions with the tested gasoline as fuel, and the compression ratio of the testing machine is changed until deflagration combustion with standard strength is produced. Then, under the same compression ratio, the mixture of isooctane (strong antiknock ability, specified octane number is 100) and n-heptane (extremely weak antiknock ability, specified octane number is 0) is used as quasi-fuel, and it is operated under the same conditions, and the volume ratio of isooctane to n-heptane in the standard fuel is constantly changed until the single-cylinder testing machine produces deflagration combustion with the same intensity as the gasoline engine to be tested. At this point, the percentage of isooctane contained in the standard fuel is the octane number of the gasoline engine to be tested. Gasoline is marked with octane number.

According to different working conditions of gasoline engine in octane number determination test, octane number can be divided into vehicle octane number (MON) and research octane number (RON). Engine octane number indicates the anti-knock performance of gasoline engine at full throttle and high speed. The octane number of the research method characterizes the antiknock performance of gasoline engine at medium and low speeds. In the past, China usually named gasoline brands based on the lowest octane number limit of motor method, such as No.70, No.80 and No.85 gasoline. Starting from 186, the naming of new gasoline brands in China is based on the lowest octane number limit, such as 93 and 97 gasoline. The octane numb of that engine is lower than the research octane numb. At present, the octane number is usually studied to determine the antiknock property of gasoline.

In order to improve the antiknock performance of gasoline, the previous practice was to add a small amount of antiknock additives to gasoline. Tetraethyl lead is the most widely used and effective antiknock agent. However, due to the toxicity of lead, lead compounds in waste will cause air pollution. Since 2000, China has completely stopped producing and using leaded gasoline. At present, the main measures to improve the octane number of gasoline are to adopt advanced refining technology and use high octane number blending agents, such as fuel, methyl tert-butyl ether or ethyl tert-butyl ether, so as to obtain higher octane number without other adverse side effects on environmental protection.

Gasoline engine can choose the octane number of gasoline according to the compression ratio. Generally, gasoline engines with high compression ratio should choose gasoline with high octane number, otherwise it is easy to deflagrate.
