The load control of Shanghai POLO Polo car engine is controlled by EPC device, which is the abbreviation of "electronic power control" in English and means electronic throttle in Chinese.

EPC= electronic power control in this system. Different from the previous method of controlling the throttle opening by cable, the throttle is driven by DC motor in the whole adjustment range.

In the past, the driver controlled the accelerator pedal according to the power demand of the engine, and the accelerator pedal controlled the accelerator opening through a steel wire rope. In EPC system, the former accelerator cable is replaced by the sensor of pedal device, and the engine control unit (ECU) calculates the optimal target accelerator opening according to the position data fed back by the sensor of pedal device, and sends a signal to the accelerator drive motor to make the accelerator rotate to this angle.

This method is superior to the pull-wire acceleration control, because the electronic throttle knows the power demand of the engine by calculating and analyzing the input signal of the accelerator pedal position, and converts this information into the torque of the engine through various actuators. When the engine speed needs to be adjusted due to safety, fuel consumption and other reasons, the engine control unit can adjust the position of the throttle valve without using the accelerator pedal. The advantage of this structure is that the control unit can limit the position of the throttle according to various requirements. (Driver control, natural consumption, fuel consumption, safety equipment).

The engine control unit also allows additional functions of the engine management system. (such as engine speed limit) and other configuration systems (such as braking system and automatic transmission).

The engine control unit detects the electronic throttle system to sense the occurrence of the fault, and displays it through a small yellow light installed in the instrument cluster. When the engine is started, the indicator light will stay on for 3 seconds. If there is no fault memory or no fault is detected at this time, the indicator light will go out automatically.

If there is a fault in the system, the engine control unit will light the lamp and the fault will be remembered. The control of the accelerator pedal will respond. If it is completely damaged, the engine speed will not be adjusted. The engine will idle at the speed of 1500 rpm to ensure that it can travel to the maintenance station for maintenance.
