The influence of greening on the environment
2. Reduce the concentration of harmful gases in the atmosphere.
Plants can absorb hydrogen fluoride, sulfur dioxide, chlorine, nitrogen dioxide, ammonia, ozone, mercury vapor, lead vapor and peroxyacetyl nitrate, ethylene, benzene, aldehydes, ketones and other gases.
For example, when hydrogen fluoride passes through a 40-meter-wide Robinia pseudoacacia forest belt, its concentration can be reduced by nearly 50% compared with that when it passes through an open field with the same distance.
The concentration of sulfur dioxide can be reduced by 25 ~ 75% through a French phoenix tree forest belt with a height of 15m and a width of 15m.
Greening plants can block, filter and absorb harmful gases and purify the air.
3. Reduce radioactive substances in the air.
Greening plants can not only block radioactive substances and their radiation, but also filter and absorb radioactive substances.
For example, in some areas, the radioactive particles on the leeward leaves of trees are only 1/4 of those on the windward side.
In general, the total radioactive intensity of radioactive materials in the leeward crops of forests is 1/20 ~ 1/5 of the windward crops.
For another example, when every cubic centimeter of air contains 1 millicurie of radioactive iodine, under the condition of moderate wind speed, 1 kg of leaves can absorb 1 curie of radioactive iodine within 1 hour, of which 2/3 are adsorbed on the surface of leaves and 1/3 enter the leaf tissues.
Different plants have different abilities to purify radioactive pollutants. For example, the purification capacity of evergreen broad-leaved forest is much higher than that of coniferous forest.
