The northeast drum was once popular in Shenyang. In the late Qing Dynasty, Shenyang once set up Fengtianfu, so it was once called "Fengtian Drum". In the 18th year of the Republic of China, Fengtian was renamed Liaoning Province in 1929, and it was also called "Liaoning Drum".

The original performance form of the Northeast Drum was that the singer played and sang with a small three-string and tied a "knot board" on his leg, also known as the black boy book. The Northeast Drum is a blend of some Peking Opera, Jingyun Drum and Northeast folk vocals.

Rich tunes, smooth singing and strong expressive force. The northeast drum is mainly rap, and its content is mainly opera, novels and legendary stories, which has become an art that people like to see and hear.

Northeast drum was originally named Fengtian drum, also known as Liaoning drum. There are two theories about its origin: one is that the calligrapher Huang Yugan performed in Shenyang during the Qianlong period, and it became a new art form on the basis of absorbing northeast folk and northeast minor.
