Why are there eggs in the solar terms?

Separating eggs in spring is an interesting tradition, and it does happen. This tradition originated in ancient China, when people thought that eggs could only be erected at the vernal equinox, that is, when the sun directly hit the equator of the earth. This is because at this time, everything on the earth is in balance, so eggs can stand.

However, modern science has not proved any relationship between vernal equinox and oviposition events. On the contrary, eggs do not stand because of their shape and surface characteristics. One end of the egg is sharp and the other end is flat. At this tip, the center of gravity is relatively low, making it easier for eggs to stand. In addition, if the surface of the egg is flat and there are no obvious bumps or depressions, it is easier to stand upright.

So we can see that eggs stand not because of the vernal equinox, but because of some physical principles. However, the tradition of dividing eggs in spring still contains the meaning of this solar term, including balance, relativity and coordination, so it is one of the traditions worthy of our continued inheritance and participation.
