Wetland protection English
Wetlands, as the name implies, are wet places. Wetlands contain all water bodies on land, even wet areas in low-lying areas, plus sea areas with water depth less than 6 meters at low tide. In other words, all the water on land plus a part of the ocean is called a wetland. Wetlands include many types, including coral reefs, beaches, mangroves, lakes, rivers, estuaries, swamps, reservoirs, ponds and rice fields. Their common feature is that their surfaces are covered or filled with water all the year round, which is the transitional zone between land and water.
There are five main types of wetlands: river wetlands, lake wetlands, swamp wetlands, coastal wetlands and constructed wetlands. Wetlands are widely distributed all over the world. They are ecosystems with rich biodiversity and high productivity, and play an important role in resisting floods, controlling pollution, regulating climate and beautifying the environment. Wetland is not only a natural reservoir on land, but also a resource for many wild animals and plants, especially for breeding and wintering of rare waterfowl, and it can also provide water and food for human beings.
