Is the vernal equinox the beginning of spring?

The spring equinox is the beginning of spring. The vernal equinox is one of the 24 solar terms and the fourth solar term in spring.

The longitude of the sun reaches 0, and the festival is held on March 19-22 of the Gregorian calendar every year. The vernal equinox is of great significance in astronomy. On the day of the vernal equinox, the sun shines directly on the equator, and the northern and southern hemispheres are divided equally day and night. Since then, the direct position of the sun has continued to move from the equator to the northern hemisphere. In the northern hemisphere, the day begins to be longer than the night, while in the southern hemisphere, it is the opposite.

Climatically, there are also obvious characteristics. After the vernal equinox, China has entered a beautiful spring except the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Northeast China, Northwest China and North China. "Equinox" has two meanings. One is "season sharing". Traditionally, spring is between beginning of spring and Changchun, and the vernal equinox is in the middle of the two solar terms, which just divides spring equally.

Solar term communication:

"Twenty-four solar terms" is the product of China's ancient farming civilization, which has a long history and is related to the time when officials raised gossip. In the process of cultural exchange and communication of historical development, four solar terms (vernal equinox, autumnal equinox, summer solstice, winter solstice) of China's "twenty-four solar terms" reflecting the return movement of the direct point of the sun spread throughout the pre-Qin period.

The division of the four seasons in the west is based on the dichotomy, that is, spring is divided into beginning of spring. The vernal equinox in the "vernal equinox" became the New Year in Uzbekistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran and other countries, which lasted for more than 3,000 years. Twenty-four solar terms were introduced to Japan more than 1000 years ago, and some solar terms were also included in Japan's statutory wishes (festivals). Vernal equinox is a public holiday in contemporary Japan.
