Dragon Head Raising, also known as Spring Farming Festival, Farming Festival and Spring Dragon Festival, is a traditional folk festival in China. "Dragon" refers to the seven constellations of the black dragon in the twenty-eight lodges in the East. At the beginning of the month in mid-spring, the "Dragon Horn Star" (the first star and the second star in the corner) appeared from the eastern horizon at dusk, so it was called "Dragon Head Up".
Legend has it that dragons can spread clouds and rain, eliminate disasters and reduce happiness, symbolizing good luck. Since ancient times, people have celebrated "the dragon looks up" in mid-spring to show their respect for the dragon, the good weather and the abundant crops. [ 1]
February of the lunar calendar has entered the mid-spring season, and February 2 is between the "rain", "shock" and "vernal equinox" of the 24 solar terms. "February 2nd" is designated as the "Dragon Heads Up" Festival, which is also the birthday of the land god. In the south, the "February 2" Dragon Head-raising Festival still follows the custom of offering sacrifices to the land gods. Geographically, there are both customs similar to the Dragon Head-raising Festival and the new "February 2" custom, which mainly worships the land god. Generally, the land god is worshipped in the south.
