It thunders in summer, and it is Huangmei that turns upside down. This is a weather proverb widely circulated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It means that after the plum rains, if there is thunder in the summer solar terms, the plum rains will be reversed, which is the so-called "yellow plum falling".

In some years, plum blossoms in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River are in midsummer for several days in a row, Huangmei Day seems to have passed, the weather turns fine and the temperature rises, so the weather in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River presents the characteristics of midsummer. But a few days later, the sultry and humid thunderstorm and shower weather with the characteristics of plum rain reappeared, and this weather phenomenon lasted for quite some time. This situation is like Huangmeitian retrogression, returning to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, so it is called "Huangmeitian".

In normal years, the rainy season should be over before the summer. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River generally flood on July 8-12, and then enter the midsummer rainy season. At this time, the rain belt should move northward. However, a few years later, the cold air was so powerful that it kept going south that cold and warm air confronted the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River again, and even the rain belt moved to the Jianghuai area again before and after the light summer heat, forming precipitation, and rainy weather continued for a period of time, just like the rainy season came back.

However, it won't take long to "pour Huangmei", usually about a week, and the old man will be ten days and a half months. Moreover, it should be noted that "thunder in summer" is not the cause of "falling yellow plum", but a possible weather phenomenon. It must be pointed out that the occurrence of this abnormal plum rain is not an isolated weather and climate phenomenon in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and some serious years are also linked to the abnormal atmospheric activities in the whole northern hemisphere and even the whole world. The global atmospheric movement anomaly is closely related to the abnormal changes of seawater temperature (such as El Nino and La Nina), global volcanic activity and sunspot activity.
