Why do you make lanterns on the Lantern Festival?
The custom of playing lanterns began in the Western Han Dynasty and flourished in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, lantern style prevailed in all previous dynasties and spread to future generations. According to the Nirvana Sutra, Tathagata was cremated after his death, and the relics were put in exquisite jars and placed on golden beds. Buddhist disciples play music while spreading flowers, lighting a lamp every step around the city to express their condolences to the Tathagata. Therefore, the emergence of lantern custom is mainly related to the spread of Buddhism.
meaning
"Taiping Yulan" records that "on the fifteenth day of the first month, the Han family worshiped Taiyi until the Ming Dynasty". Every year, on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, lights must be lit all night, and the urban and rural areas are brightly lit, and all gentry and ordinary people hang up lights. Therefore, the original meaning of Lantern Festival lanterns is to offer sacrifices to the most noble Taiyi God. With the changes of the times, now we have inherited the traditional Lantern Festival in snuff, but more because of the festive atmosphere in snuff and the bright future implied by snuff. Therefore, the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month of each year is the climax of setting off fireworks. On the night of the Lantern Festival, all kinds of red lights are hung high in the streets and alleys, attracting people who look at the lights.
